Giving Tuesday

Two-thirds of children living in poverty grow up with no books at home. Studies show that the number of books in the home is directly linked to reading achievement. Children who grow up with access to books in their homes reach a higher level of education. United Way of the Brazos Valley is tackling this issue to support early literacy for all children.

This Giving Tuesday, United Way of the Brazos Valley will celebrate by spreading the love of reading. All donations through Giving Tuesday will go towards our programs to provide children access to books. United Way of the Brazos Valley provides a free book to every baby born in the Brazos Valley and holds free book giveaways during the holidays.

“At United Way, we believe books should never be a luxury for a child. As a mother to an active five-year-old boy, I know firsthand how much a child gains when they read. Baby Bundles and holiday book giveaways, like Jingle Book Bash, is our way of encouraging a love of reading and providing access to books.”

Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. Following Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, this year’s Giving Tuesday will take place on Nov. 27 and will kick off the giving season by inspiring people to collaborate and give back.
