COLLEGE STATION, TX — United Way of the Brazos Valley and Women United will be hosting the Second Annual Jingle Book Bash, a free book giveaway, the last three Saturdays before Christmas (Dec. 8, 15, and 22). One of the Bold Goals of United Way of the Brazos Valley is to prepare children, teens and young adults for career achievement through educational success. The intent of the Jingle Book Bash is to encourage the love of reading and provide access to books during the holiday season. The selection is appropriate for children, teens and young adults. Jingle Book Bash will be located in the JC Penney Court at the Post Oak Mall.
“When families read together, children are poised for better success in school. Creating excitement and joy around choosing a book and reading for fun is the foundation of Jingle Book Bash,” said Peggi Goss, VP Community Impact of United Way of the Brazos Valley.
Two-thirds of children living in poverty grow up with no books at home. Studies show that the number of books in the home is directly linked to reading achievement. Children who grow up with access to books in their homes reach a higher level of education. United Way of the Brazos Valley is tackling this issue to support early literacy for all children, as part of the organization’s 2020 Regional Bold Goals.
“At United Way, we believe books should never be a luxury for a child,” states Alison Prince, President and CEO of United Way of the Brazos Valley. “As a mother to an active five-year-old boy, I know firsthand how much a child gains when they read. A holiday book giveaway is our way of encouraging a love of reading and providing access to books.”
United Way of the Brazos Valley is proud to be hosting Jingle Book Bash again this December. We are in need of volunteers to help us set up, assist families and children with choosing books, and clean up a the end of the shift.
